I remember the
message I received a while back telling me I need to remain flexible
and able to turn on a dime. One would say, this is good advice.
I would say, this is one of the most important messages I have received
to be able to stay on track through
these ever changing times.
Today we honor
my granddaughter, Dylan’s first birthday. In
a few hours, 24 of our friends and family will arrive to join us in
celebrating this little girl’s very big day! We have plans to
play in the green grass and barbecue yet the weather man tells
us we may expect severe thunder storms. This would certainly
put a damper on our plans. So we prepare. We understand that we may
have to move the party inside. This we accept and will adapt if need
be.
Last Sunday we
were playing miniature golf with Grant when he said, “Mom,
can we go back to home schooling?” After listening to his concerns
stating that he did not feel that his current school was a good
environment for him to learn we decided it was time to check
out other schools. Monday I began my research of the schools in our
area and Tuesday he was tested and placed in the one opening, by chance,
that was available in this new school.
Because I was very involved with his old school, I had to bring
this chapter of our lives to a close and open up to the new. Being
open and able to turn on a dime, we made this big decision and
acted on it. Grant loves his new school and has already made many
new friends, adapted to going from a “new age” school
with a new age philosophy to an old traditional, very structured environment.
Instead of Mom and Dad taking him to school every morning and
picking him up every afternoon, he now rides a school bus with his
new friends to his new school.
The week has come
and gone and I look back and marvel at the “change” our
family went through and I am amazed at how easy it was and how we managed
to flow with this big change in our son’s life.
I recall three
years ago, today, when I woke up and received the message, “Why don’t you check out Prescott as a possible
place to relocate?” We had no plans to relocate! We loved our
home and our life in San Diego. But we listened and we made a trip
to Prescott to check it out. It was a feeling of coming home and we
both new that it was our Divine Guidance that was guiding
us to make this change. Upon our trip home, we had our new home
in escrow.
It happened so
fast we had not the time to even think about it. For nine months
we managed to make both mortgage payments until we decided it was
time to make this move to Prescott. In this time, many things happened
that were a confirmation to us that it was indeed time to relocate.
And in the last week when we were packing and preparing for the
movers, a young man was attacked on our front porch. As the neighbors
all watched from their windows, not one went out to assist this
young man who was attempting to fight for his life, while the
30 plus high school students who surrounded this boy watched
their classmate stab him with the shaft of a broken golf club.
My daughter and son-in-law were down from Orange County helping us
with our big move. They too watched out the window as this was happening
two feet from our front door. Darin, my son-in-law, did not think
of the potential danger, opened the door and went out to help. The
people scattered, running and hiding in the bushes, jumping the fences
into the neighbors yards to hide. Darin sat with this young man, talking
to him and reassuring him until the ambulance arrived. Still, the
neighbors watched from behind the windows of their homes.
This young man did recover from his injuries and we did disclose
this incident to our prospective tenants. And two years later, we
look back and thank God we listened to our still small voice within
and made this move to our new home. Now we have decided to sell our
San Diego home and amazingly, the day after we received the message
that it was time to sell, our tenants called us to inquire if we would
be interested in selling our home to them in a couple of months. Are
we surprised? We are not!
When we remain
centered and in the flow, amazing things happen! It is as if we
are living in a scripted movie, with each scene playing out as it
was written. And today we will celebrate our joy with our new friends
we have made in the short time we have been here. New friends who
do not seem to be “new”,
but rather old friends we have longed for and missed in this
time we have been apart. It will be a joyous reunion, a time of
celebration as we remember to remain flexible and able to turn on
a dime!
